The 2024 VSA Retreat will be at Roca Berry Farm, located just 5 miles or 10 minutes from the Silver Sky Imports warehouse! Roca Berry Farm is owned by the growing Schaefer family who have been harvesting memories since 1980. What started as a small pumpkin and berry farm has grown to a local tourist attraction and must-see entertainment destination for families throughout southeast Nebraska. This retreat will also include optional shopping at the Silver Sky Imports warehouse with nearly 10,000 singing bowls and instruments.

When:  Monday, August 26th to Thursday, August 29st, 2024

Retreat events will take place at Roca Berry Farms.  Participants will be responsible for their own lodging. We will announce our hotel partner soon that will offer discounted room rates, free breakfast, and free parking for our participants. VSA will provide shuttles from the hotel to Roca Berry Farm and the warehouse.  So your own transportation is not needed but you are welcome to drive yourself or others.

Presentation Title:  Sound and Consciousness

We have two amazing Keynote speakers for this years retreat.  Zacciah Blackburn is the Executive Director of Sunreed Instruments and The Center Of Light, and is one of the most experienced instructors in Therapeutic Sound Healing in the world, involved in the field of healing music, sound and shamanic practices for over 45 years. He is a gifted intuitive, trained in classical healing and shamanic traditions, and sacred sound cultures. He teaches internationally, and practices in Vermont, USA. His work focuses on therapeutic sound, spiritual development, and indigenous earth mysteries. Dorothy Stone is Co-Director at Sunreed Instruments and the Center of Light. Dorothy has been working in the area of health and wellness for over 30 years. Her background includes allopathic medicine, as well as decades in multiple therapeutic modalities, including sound, healing and consciousness.

Sound and Consciousness

Sound healing is one of the fastest growing fields in holistic therapies. It is incorporated more and more in medicine and scientific research, because sound is found to have an incredible effect on well-being, though not fully understood. Perhaps this is because all is vibrational in nature; all is energy in motion. Yet, many in our field overlook the greatest ally of sound. It is human consciousness. Developing clear relation with how and why we use sound, and the outcome we hope to achieve, will enhance our practice remarkably.
Our ancestors around the world have used sound in healing, ritual, and ceremony, in time honored traditions and methods. They held, and still hold (in many traditions) direct understanding of the fundamental nature of life, of resonance, and how to achieve desired outcome, whether it is healing of an individual, communion with that greater than oneself, or journeying into another world to gain insight or revelation. When we incorporate sound with meditative and healing practices, especially those proven effective and transformative within themselves, we heighten the effectiveness of those practices.
What is the outcome we want to achieve, as sound practitioners, sound therapists, or sound healers? What is healing? What is the intention and the nature of the space we hold in our work, and why is it important?
By gaining insight into questions such as these, by clarifying our own state of being, of inner awareness, and our fundamental intention in practice, we enhance the quality of it exponentially. As we learn to incorporate these states of consciousness into our sound work, our work becomes more about intent and awareness than concern over which instrument, pitch, or frequency we choose.
Intent and awareness will drive our practice, and broaden the reach and effective outcome of our work.
Zacciah and Dorothy will demonstrate this through oral teaching and experiential practice with instruments and voice.
